Help Can't search contacts in Google Maps

Has anyone else noticed that you cannot search your contacts in Google Maps (stock S3)? Typing in someone's name does not filter anything. The UI will say for a moment "searching", but will continue to display all contacts with addresses. Quite annoying. I remember this working fine on my Thunderbolt (stock & rooted). Did Samsung break this?

Does the search work for other people? Has anybody had this problem and then fixed it?

My Galaxy S3 is on Verizon.

I will eventually root when I feel I want wireless tether, but I haven't needed it yet so I will probably
 
I have the same problem (Sprint user) - and I see some references to problems between maps & contacts, elsewhere on the interwebs, so I would wait for a fix.
