Can't see groups in Google Contacts

Hi,

I have more than 400 contacts in my gmail, all groupped in more than 13 different categories. Groups are extremely important to me, so I can find my contacts easily.

So, now I have an Android phone, and for my surprise it synced all my gmail contacts, but NO groups. They are all together like a big mess. There is just no way to see only one group or only another group.

I read in other forum that I need to install a 3rd part app to see my groups, like Contacts GroupU.

Is seems too absurd to be real. Is that what it is? I need an app to see groups of gmail? Already Android 2.1 and Google didn't manage to do this simple and obvious task?

Please advise.

Which phone do you have? As far as I know stock android doesn't come with the ability view contacts in groups. Nor can you assign a group to a contact. Some manufacturer (such as HTC sense) will implented with their overlays, but not all. If you don't own a HTC phone, then the best you can do is use a third party app.
