Can't send text unless I get one first

Deltapdawn

I can't get Android Auto to send a text message when I am not answering one first. It's ok after someone else sends me a text first and then I answer. But if I want to send a text I say "Ok Google" and I see the bars like it is listening to me (I'm not able to use the screen in my car but am using the screen on my phone...the Google Pixel 2 XL) but it never asks me who the text is going to or what I want to say. And then eventually the bars stop and it goes back to the Android Auto home screen. It hasn't done anything.

I have all the correct settings set up for Ok Google.

It is not compatible with my 2016 Nissan Juke to be able to have the car's screen working. This is so disappointing. I used to have a Windows phone and you could do all of this using Cortana. But this "better" phone is certainly far less superior than they make it sound like it is.

wish i could help you but dont even understand why you are in the boat you are in. other than i have a twitter acct and dont know how to tweet unless i'm replying to someone else, just like you. well good luck homie!

I'm afraid you have misunderstood what my problem is. It is isn't that I don't know how to text. The problem is that when I ask it to text, it does nothing.

The car radio has to be set to AUX and the volume in the car turned way up because you can barely hear. Then you can hear OK Google ask who to send the text to, etc.
Incoming text alerts come over the phone, not the stereo speakers so if you have your music up too loud you might miss the beep on the phone. It does not interrupt the music to handle the text.
But at least it does everything else over the car speakers...but you must have that volume turned up. Don't forget to turn it back down when you switch back to radio or you will be sorry !!! LOL
