Help Can't sign into add a gmail account

I want to add an email account. When I try to log-in, the default adds the
" @gmail.com " for the user name. My account doesn't have the " @gmail.com " in the user name. When I try to take it out and go to the password, put in the password the " @gmail.com" gets added, then I get an error that says the username is not correct. How do I add my account? My S5 will not let my past the log-in without automatically adding the "@gmail.com".
