Help Can't take portrait pics

I hold the phone correctly and make sure i have "portrait" selected under scene mode, but all of my pics come out sideways/landscaped. I'm using the stock camera app. Is there any way to fix this?

When you view the picture in the gallery app, if you try rotating the phone and it doesn't rotate, then like me you have a broken accelerator and can either get it repaired or deal with it (no real way to fix it diy style). If it does rotate, try putting the phone in landscape mode then turning to portrait, as sometimes the camera app glitches
