Can't update SG3 to 4.1.2 after downgrading

jabardast

Newbie
I recently got an ATT SG3.

It came with android 4.1.2. I wanted to unlock it so I can use foreign SIM (outside USA).

I followed youtube link - DOWNGRADE AND UNLOCK SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 2, S3 VERSION 4.1.2 AT&T, TMOBILE FREE STEPS BY STEPS - YouTube.

After downgrading to 4.1.1, i was able to unlock it. My phone is working fine with foreign SIM.

But whenever i try updating ti via phone menu or Kies. It says you have the latest version.
I have called ATT and samsung support but no one knows why it can;t update. I flashed it with ATT stock ROM (I guess.. I am a noob in android world).

Original -
Android 4.1.2
SW-VER / Baseband Version - I747UCDMG2

DOWNGRADE TO
ANDROID 4.1.1
SW-VER / Baseband Version - I747UCDLK3

Anyone has a clue what could be the issue ? or how it can be fixed..

Samsung tech support is of no help at all.. someone says you have to bring it in a service centre. some one says wait till Kies is updating.. etc etc

Have a good read of this for updating official firmware from sammobile.com/firmware but if it was me id look into rooting and flashing a custom rom

Hi,

Thanks for your post. I have looked at sammobile.com/firmware. The hotfile link is the same one I used to download my firmware( I think.) Firmware file name is also the same which I had downloaded.
I think - I747UCDLK3 is ATT stock firmware.

The only reason I want to update is, may be it can fix skype video call issue. I can't make skype video call over Wifi. calls start and after 2-3 seconds drops and skype restarts.
Over the same wifi connection, i can make video call with my 4s.

Samsung tech support claims that the FOTA (firmware over the air update) will only be detected if my phone has an ATT signal. To me thats load of BS.

I have an unlocked iphone 4s from ATT. i am using it outside USA with a foregin SIM. And i am getting all IOS updates (I am on 7.0.2).

With the same logic, Samsung updates should also be detected by my SG3.
I am using it outside USA with foreign SIM as of now.

It seems moving from Apple to an android was not a smart move for me. I guess I am not technical enough for an android yet :)

Well the 4s is iPhone. All iPhone updates come directly from apple. Usually android updates have to be pushed from the cell company itself, which is done through the network. Android is completely different. Not every phone gets the newest updates. (Being 4.3 and some phones are still on 2.3 or 4.0) So it is most likely that the update will not come through because of it not being able to receive ATT signal, meaning you will want to install a custom rom if you want to return to a higher OS for your phone.

thanks for the information. I was not aware of this.

Any recommendation for a custom ROM for SG3.. As I said , I am an android noob , so i will try to flash a custom rom .

TIA

thanks funkylogik for the link.

I quickly browsed it and within 5 secs i Knew , its not my cup of cake (not at the moment :-) ).

I guess i first need to learn the basics of androiod, rooting, roms etc before actually trying to do it.

thanks eveyrone for their posts and help
