Root Can't update to ICS

Still on GB and I've notice my phone is just getting jacked up as the days go by so I want to update to ics to see if that'll fix the problems, but when I try the OTA update and even the manual one, I get a messages that says:

The software update failed.

Now I have rooted my phone once to use a ps3 controller and then eventually never used the controller after a while and unrooted. I never had a problem updating though until the ics update.

Any tips or methods for a unrooted person to use to update?

sorry for the late response.

You're right. I do want the most updated os and I think the rooter I used did put bootstrap on it and the other, but I thought it took it off when I unrooted. I also never froze anything for the sake of trouble later. So can I use rslite to get to jelly bean or would there be another way?

Even after uninstalling bootstrap, there are a few residual files that are known to cause problems when trying to update later on.

There are threads that spell out what needs to be done to correct that but I'm thinking root is required to do it.

So, I would just go with the RSDLite method. I'm not sure you can jump from GB directly to JB. I think you need to flash ICS first then flash JB.

Regardless, the post I linked to contains everything you need to accomplish that task thanks to OutOfPhase
