Help Can't update

Hi I'm really sorry if this is covered somewhere else, I am far from techi when it comes to these phones so I don't really understand most of the lingo.

I keep getting a message saying there is an upgrade for my HTC Wildfire S but every time I download it it says I don't have the space to install it. It says I need 25M but I only have 15M free.

I go through the process of clearing my cashe and removing texts over a certain number but it doesn't give me enough. When I go to the "move apps to sd card" there are no apps to move, when I go to "delete apps" there are only 2 I can delete, and they come to less that 2M.

It strikes me it's all the other junk that came on the phone that I will never use.

Firstly, a little rant, why do they sell these phones and plan these upgrades if there isn't enough room to install them?? Especially if it's because of all the junk they put on it in the first place?

Then onto the request for help..... how do I either stop it telling me there is an upgrade or how do I get this thing to install without having to delete everything off my phone?

Like I say, I'm a complete numpty on this so please be gentle....

If I do have to a factory restore then I guess I can disconnect the gmail account that it won't let me disconnect that it also won't sync... but that is another issue that is only mildly annoying coz I just don't use the gmail app on it.

Thanks.

If you go into Menu/Settings/Applications/Manage applications, and choose Gmail then Clear data, that will delete everything including all files, settings, databases, etc. You can also uninstall any updates from there.

I don't know why you've got so little space if there are only 2 apps that you can uninstall, mine still has 63mb. Hopefully someone else will come along to help.

Edited to say: I just uninstalled all the updates for the originally installed apps and have gained 30mb. I now have 93mb. It might be worth you trying that then you may have enough to install the update. The latest update also gains quite a lot of space so it's worth having if you can do it.

Hi Calomax... thanks for that info, I have cleared the data from my Gmail. Looking at my list of apps, The internet is the biggest at 15.98Mb followed by
facebook at 15.70Mb
messages at 14.03Mb
Maps at 10.5Mb
Dialer Storage (?) at 5.96Mb
HTC Likes (can I bin this?) at 5.6Mb

That lot comes to 57.3Mb there are others under 5Mb

There are 2 facebook programs, just plain facebook and facebook for HTC Sense... can I bin one of these?

@shlokinani...... ???

I don't know why your Internet is so high. Mine is 5.69mb. I don't use Facebook but mine is at 2.35mb and Facebook for Sense is 0.00kb. I don't think you can uninstall either of them because they are original apps.

Maps is 3.5mb but I think it was quite a bit higher before I uninstalled the updates. I don't know what Dialer Storage does but mine is only 736kb. Likewise I don't know what HTC Likes does but mine was 3.9mb. I just cleared data and it's now zero and I have 97mb free. It's another that you can't uninstall because it doesn't have that option.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along and help you more than I can.

You will not be able to uninstall the fb apps because they are what they call 'bloatware' apps. They come pre-isntalled and no pre-installed app can be uninstalled. You have 2 fb application because HTC has their version and the original fb has their version. You can definitely clear the data of one and keep the other. FB usually does take a lot of space.
I think your dialer storage might be your contaxt list. It can become quite big if you . sync with facebook and gmail. If you don't mind, un-syn all your contacts. That should clear up quite a bit of space too.
But don't worry, once the update happens, you will have like 60mb free all of the sudden so you will be able to do lots more
