captivate stuck on bootloader mode

I have a rooted froyo captivate. I was helping a friend upgrade his captivate. I have a reboot widget that will reboot the phone in any mode you like. I had it reboot in bootloader mode so I could show him what the screen looks like. You know whata pain it is to make the captivate go into that mode. Well it is stuck in some kind of loop. It will show the att sign. Then it vibrates a sequence and then the att sign again. I managed to get it to show the recovery screen. I wiped everything and formated the sd card(internal). I don't know what else to do. I have removed the battery and usb cable. No help. Did I brick this phone??
