Car dashboard, hard right turn, threw the open window to the pavement my cellphone goes

I didn't even see it flying past me, I just heard a quick rough sliding noice inside the cabin followed by a distinct loud smack and what sounded like several separate pieces breaking apart. . I immediately thought was that my phone? looking threw my drivers side view mirror. I knew that had to be my Note 4 on the pavement behind me. I immediately hit my breaks causing the approaching SUV behind me to change lanes.
My N4 was not in a case and had no screen protector. I picked up the three individual pieces, the phone , the battery and the back cover plate.
Looked at the screen and to my surprise, I could see no physical damage. I turned it around and sim card as well as the external sd card were still present. Put it back together and booted just as before. It's been two weeks and my Note 4 works as good as ever. The only difference is a small indentation in the uper right hand corner of the aluminum housing.
I wonder if Samsung and Timex joined forces that year on manufacturing the Galaxy Note 4. You know "Takes a liking and keeps on Ticking". :)

I was driving a 2004 Dodge Neon. The dashboard has a center flate indentation where I placed my phone. I made a right hand turn when approaching a green light and bam! lol

well i'm glad at least the phone still works. i wish my note 8 was that tough. it slipped out of my hands and landed right on a rock that broke the glass over the camera. i had to get a replacement. i had a case and everything.

Most people don't know that the Neon srt-4 was the second fastest car dodge made from 2003 -2005. The dodge Viper was the fastest.
Borh pail in comparison to the 2017-2020 Dodge Demon.

I would recommend a good wireless charging car mount that clips to the AC vent. I kept mine mounted on the vent just to the right of the steering wheel. Close, easy to view and hear, the vent kept the phone cool even while navigating on long summer road trips, and kept it charged up! But get SOMETHING: phone lying on the dashboard, open window... that's placing way too much faith in humanity. Don't get me wrong: I believe that most people are essentially good people. Based on the drivers around me, however, I'm not sure how many of them managed to get a driver's license...

:p

I have a strict rule in the car...
No phone.
I use it for music through the radio, which I start before I leave.

The cord to plug the phone into the radio only allows the phone to sit on the benchseat near me.

And having anything on the dash makes reflections on the glass that annoy me.

The old plastic cased phones survive this type of thing far better than the current glass sandwiches. But I guess that's progress (in marketing, if nothing else).

I was sure the glass would have cracked or shattered. I'm hearing impaired and I heard the impact. I was lucky it hit the aluminum frame. Its not the monetary cost of the N4 but it time it took me to modify it and the hassle of reconnecting my other N4. I also thought to my self if it was a newer model with glass on both frount and back it would have certainly shattered. Thanks @Hadron :)

That is nice, With my extended battery, I'm unable to use the Samsung upgraded wireless charging back cover but keeping my N4 in off the pavement and in plain site is ny main concern.
I'm not ready to give up my N4 as my daily driver just yet but I am planning on purchasing a 64Gb Note 5 so a car mount with wireless charging is definite plus.

Thank you @ocnbrze :)

Oh, no. Not a Note 5. ANYTHING but that. It has no microSD slot, so 64GB is all you will ever have without cloud storage. Note 8 is getting very inexpensive right now, and prices for the Note 9 (which I greatly prefer) will plummet in late August/early September after the release of the Note 20. I recommend keeping your Note 4 and avoiding the Note 5 at all costs.

I wish my girlfriend followed that advice. Lol :)

Lol :)

I agree, thsts why I didn't upgrade when the N5 was released. I would prefer a newer device but the bootloaders are all locked and I'm not willing to give up custom recovery nor root.
Hopefully I'll find a better alternative to the N5. The lack of expandable storage is such a downer. :(
