Car dock solutions

So I upgraded from a Droid 2 Global to the Bionic.

With the D2G I had a pro clip dock, but was saddened to find there was none for the Bionic. Unfortunately they didn't have a dock solution for the Bionic so I had to look elsewhere.

To further complicate things, I also wanted the inductive charging back cover but since it adds a little thickness I assumed it wouldn't fit a standard dock.

Well, I ordered a few things and got lucky :)

First, I ordered the standard car dock kit.
Then, I got one of these: Amazon.com: ARKON APGN-VSM Vehicle Specific Mount Adapter Plate Connects 4 Hole AMPS VSM to Garmin Nuvi 17mm: GPS & Navigation

Turns out, that little ball mount fits perfectly onto the pro clip vehicle dock, and the ball connector fits the OEM bionic car dock perfectly. And for the icing on the cake, the extra size from the battery cover had no impact on the fit, my phone fits the dock just fine :)

Once I secure the power cord running off the dock I'll take some pics. Also, the bionic's car dock app is much better than the horrid thing they had on the D2G.

That's information that would be helpful to a lot of people - that the socket on the back of the phone holder fits a "standard" Garmin 17mm ball. This was also true of the OG Droid dock, and the Droid 2 dock.

This means it will fit with many beanbag friction style dashboard mounts, vent mounts, or adhesive mounts available from countless retailers and web sites.
