Help car mode with no voice dial? Mistake?

Lurker
I get my Nexus S in the car support, switch to car mode (the one that came pre installed) and to my disbelief there is no voice dialer. For me, and I would bet for many others, voice-dialing and calling on a speaker phone is the most common and basic thing to use your phone for while driving. Strangely there is a voice search Am I supposed to read the google search results while driving?). Is there a way around this missing feature?
Thank you for your help, this is the first of possibly many questions from a beginner.

I am not sure what the problem is but generally if you hold the search button and say "call <contact's name>" it should work as long as you have the latest google voice search installed and your voice recognition language is US english.
If not you can add a shortcut to voice dialer on one of the screens, thats about the most you can do unless you want to download vlingo or an application and add its shortcut to the screen.
