Car Mode

Does the Moto X have one, similar to what HTC does in Sense? If so, anybody got any screen shots they are willing to put up?

Also, any decent car windscreen mounts that auto-launch it?

No, it doesn't have one. It has Assist, that determines when you are driving and automates a few things like reading messages to you. I don't use it so am not really familiar with it but there is no 'car mode' other than that. I just use voice commands if I want to launch Pandora or call someone when I'm driving.

I know that a "desk mode" can be triggered with a magnet. I'm sure it has a software car mode since it's a part of stock Android, but I'm not sure if there's a way to trigger it with a magnet or NFC tag, and there's no stock app that would launch when entering car mode.

Even if you could trigger it with a dock and automatically launch a car mode UI, Google has drastically reduced the usefulness of this in recent versions of Android, since tapping the Home button while in car mode no longer returns you to the car mode UI - it returns you to your normal home screen instead.

That said, I'm with Clementine_3 - I use Touchless Controls in the car, and haven't missed car mode at all.

It has no built in car mode, if fact, I read somewhere Kit Kat no longer has a naitive car mode. You can download a car port app from the play store & the car dock will use it. I have tried a few, Car Home Ultra & Car Dock Home V3. Both seem to be fine.

There is somewhere on the back where, if you put a magnet in the right place, in the right orientation, it will start a psuedo-car mode. Basically, it allows the launcher to run landscape.A notification comes up that, I believe, says "Let's Drive" and it walks you through setting up drive mode. It's not like the car mode that was in older Moto Android phones, but it exists. (Rather than using a large icon-driven car mode, it depends on touchless controls to control the phone.)

You can try this yourself with a magnet. As that post says, one polarity starts dock mode, the opposite starts car dock mode. And it needs to be a bit stronger than a refrigerator magnet (though I am always accidentally activating dock mode when I put my phone on my iPad cover.)

Thanks for all of the above - sounds like I'll have to stick to HTC then

I've tried all of the apps in the play store, and none are a touch on the Sense

Correction: Moto X has a car mode, just no native car dock software. I have only had the MotoX for less than a week. Still feeling my way around. I did pick up a Griffin car dock, works well once I downloaded Car Home Ultra & Car Dock Home V3. I prefer Car Dock Home V3. Unlike the car port software of the Bionic, this is a blank sheet & fully configurable, works well so far. It took me about 30 minutes to toy around & configure the 8 or 9 buttons I needed.
Car Home Ultra had features I did not need, i.e. GPS, weather & heading on the main screen & an annoying voice. I use a GPS software for that information. Both products worked well.
