This tip works on all wear devices, but I am trying to make this forum more active.
If you turn off card previews in the Google Android wear app on your phone, you still get notifications like normal, but they do not stay on the screen after the watch goes back into standby.
This means your watchface will still look nice, especially if you are using a custom one.
Note that your notifications are not gone until you dismiss them. You just have to swipe up to review them.
