Help Casting Anything Using Chromecast?

[kblanco]

So there's some upcoming programs I want to watch, one of which is from Canada and just beginning season nine, but the various sites Google Play, Amazon, Vudu and Hulu only have seasons one through three. Now I can find the various seasons through, less than stellar means, one the net. But instead of playing them on my Android device, I was hoping to use Chromecast to cast the episodes from my device to my flat screen. Now if I have a Chromecast, can I cast anything that I play on my device or is it just certain websites?

If your device supports it you can try to cast your phone screen using the Chromecast app but there might be lag depending on your Internet speed.

Yes, you have a lot of options. Most phones with 4.2 and later can cast the screen, but there are exceptions like Moto E and G

Es file explorer can cast media stored on your phone (different than screen casting...might be a little smoother but you'll have to check for yourself). As mentioned in another thread, you might not want to use es file explorer to connect to cloud accounts since they may be capturing your login info. There are several other apps that can also cast local media although I don't recall the names (local cast?). Of course any media that find their way to your phone should do so legally.

Thanks everyone who responded. This past Friday I elected to try the Chromecast and it was a really great decision. I mean I have to give a benefit of a doubt to Roku as I've read and researched it but I don't have one. But over the weekend the Chromecast worked like a dream and I really didn't have any issues with it (it dropped the signal from my Android once all weekend). Between casting from apps and mirroring the phone itself I was able to watch anything and everything that I sought. Oh and I'm running a Moto G with Kit Kat 4.4.4 and it worked very well.
