I use a Y5iii and I want to view my screen on a (non-smart) TV. I bought a Chromecast type of device but it didn't work, I also installed Miracast software and it said that my device was not compatible. I thought all current Android OSs had the ability but I am thinking the Y5 does not have compatibility built-in because it is one of the cheaper models. Am I right?
Is there another way of doing it with this phone?

i agree. chromecast....the actual device works the best. i use it in almost every room in my house. they are not at all expensive. you will need to have a wireless router and access to the internet, however.

no my note 10+ will either need a specific samsung tv or chromecast to be able to cast or mirror wirelessly.

Google dropped support for Miracast back in 2015 so it's been quite a while now since it was in all Android devices. It is however still supported on a per-app basis so some apps use it, you just need to read up on the feature list of each app to determine which.

As for a 'Chromecast type of device' it would be helpful it you stated just which one. While there are some lessor quality knock-offs that are problematic, there are also a lot of really good brands, like the Roku line of devices, that are have a more expansive feature-set than a Chromecast.

I bought the “Chromecast like” device on EBay for AU$18.90 (~US$13). A genuine Google device costs about three times as much.

It was described as – “For Chromecast 2 Digital HDMI 1080 Media Video Streamer 2nd Generation AU” and
Package Includes:
1 x MiraScreen Wireless WiFi Display Receiver
1 x USB & WiFi 2in1 Cable
1 x User Manual

Item comes in loose open bag not sealed bag.

See the word “MiraScreen”? Contributor svim wrote that Google no longer supports Miracast so that could be the root of the problem.

Moral of the story- “Don’t buy cheap and nasty”?
