Root [CDMA] Can't call or text after S-Off? Read this!

one-point

Lurker
Rooted earlier today without any issues, process is really straightforward IMHO. However after a bit I realized I wasn't able to make calls or send texts after doing so. Here's the fix, maybe this will save some other folks the time and worry:

1. Go to data menu; enter ##3282# on the dialpad.
2. Click on "Edit Mode" on the menu that appears.
3. Enter your MSL # and hit "OK"
4. Choose "Data Profile" from the listed options.
5. Press your menu button on the phone and select "Restore" from the menu that appears. Then hit "OK.
6. Phone should reboot. Once it's back up, wait for it to start hands-free activation. Once this is complete you should be good as new! :-)

Thanks for the welcome, as a new smartphone user I have found a lot of great info here so I will try to do my part and share what I learn :)

I didn't see much info about this when I looked around the 'net and had to figure it out by trial and error. If there are other potential fixes for this issue maybe there should be a sticky? Or perhaps I just missed it. At any rate, this worked for me after several other methods failed.

Great tip! How do you get the MSL number (without calling the Sprint rep, which this tip is designed to avoid, right)? Thanks...

That fix helps a lot of folks, but often enough, more is needed.

What are the other options? I still can't make a call and this method seems to hang at the Hands Free Activation part - never connects to the network and I get the error: "Your activation could not be completed. To try again, choose "Update Profile" in the System updates area of Settings. If the problem persists, you may need to contact Customer Service. Error code: 1012"

I can get data - i.e. Facebook and email, but no calls or texts????

Yep, please see my posts in the main sticky here on rooting.

Short version is I've posted my advice on how to chat with Sprint until they resolve the problem on their end.

Issue is that on a re-activation a partial update might occur and their systems get stuck - you need a human to help kick things back into shape.

I know - I was in that situation first (or first to report it here) and had taken all of the user steps myself first. Data working first, no calls - the whole bit.

See those posts, ask me if there's anything I can clarify, here or in that thread are both fine - just not both places at once or I'll get lost! :) ;)

PS - Put your wifi on, just to be sure.

Thanks for the reply EarlyMon, you are right - It took a call to Sprint which I found out by going on IRC It seemed strange at first to have to call Sprint, but it worked.

Thanks!

Well this is now a big isue. I can't make the phone complete hands free activation, and I can't call sprint to have someone make it go through, due to it not even having internet now. (Only form of a phone I have).

Uhh.... what the hell?

I guess I'm gonna be looking into going back to S-ON at this rate, here tonight if I can't fix this.

**I've let it sit here for 46 minutes now on the 'Contacting network...' screen. I give it another 5 minutes, then I'm un-rooting until this isn't an issue. I'm fine with some things not working, but if I don't have a phone? No dice.

When you try making a phone call, do you get a recorded message from Sprint saying that you have the error? If so, just listen to it the whole way through and it will automatically connect you to the technicians or CSR who will just reset your profile. It took me like 5 minutes total.

Yea... it's a pre-recorded message saying something like 'transfer error 369. Please try again later.' I let it sit for 10 minutes before thinking something would happen, but it just replays. No dice. Should say. this has been going on for about 2 days now.

It says eaxctly: 'Error number 16. Switch: three six nine.' What the fudge?!

you have to call sprint from another phone anyways, just in case they need you to do something to the cell phone..if, you don't get connected to a sprint tech within 2 minutes of getting the "error 16" warning, you have to call from another phone.
DO NOT unroot your phone over this, man..you will be sorry as to how easy it is to get this fixed.

Ran into the same problem today. I called Sprint two times but both times we got nothing done. Here's what I did to fix it.

1) Got MSL Reader. Got my MSL Number.
2) Connected to a WiFi network [I used the one at my house] (For those people who are experiencing Hands Free Activation getting stuck at Connecting to Network. I had this, and it's because you clear your configuration to use Mobile Network and other forms of internet access when you make the phone Restore your data [i think]. Basically, your thing won't go through unless you are connected to a WiFi source. As soon as I tried it with this, it worked. Give it a try. Sorry if this info is wrong!)
3) Did everything the OP said above.

Ok I tried the method and it seemed to go well. But it didn't work.. I have S-off and I did have stock rom and SMS/call didn't work. So I thought it was the OTA. So i loaded steel romthat to my knowledge is built on the layest OTA. But it also couldnt SMS/call unless im roaming. Data works fine. So i tried this method on the steel rom withno luck.. And im getting no where pretty fast. So please somebody help!

Simply call Sprint and tell then your phone jammed up, and you could not get it to respond and you had to do a factory reset, stay on the line with them, and they will have you up and running in minutes
