Root [CDMA] Can't install Play Store

MaxPower1

Newbie
I flashed MeanROM ICS without doing a full wipe, everything works fine except Play Store is missing. I have Play Movies and that works fine but when I try to install the Play Store apk it tells me it's a system app and wants to know if I want to replace it, I choose ok then install then it tells me "Application not installed". I tried flashing gapps for ICS from the 4ext recovery but that didn't do anything. Besides doing a full wipe and reinstalling MeanROM, is there anything I can do to install the Play Store?

I am S:ON
I don't see a vending.apk in the gapps zip, just a MarketUpdater.apk.
Also, Google says that if the Play Store is missing, to reboot the phone and wait 15 minutes and it will magically show up, this hasn't happened.

no, your supposed to flash GAPPS IMMEDIATELY after flashing the rom itself.

no rebooting, do NOT load the rom, right after the rom is done flashing, flash the gapps, THEN reboot and everything will work.

and yes, youll have to wipe the rom you have now.

the process is that you flash gapps immediately after. you didnt follow those instructions and now you have a problem. instead of putting a band aid on it, do it the right way :D only takes a few minutes and some more to set up the rom again. worth it.

True, I went ahead and did a full wipe then reflashed. It will take a while to redownload all my apps but oh well.

Just curious, is this something new with Mikey, you never had to flash gapps before in his roms ??

I have not used Mikey's Roms in a while, but I just checked for the heck of it, and his instructions does not say anything about Gapps, that us usually for AOSP Roms

Before you Install, prepare:
  1. This ROM installs as the full 2.89 base except for the kernel: the default kernel is the 2.17 kernel so that it will boot for everyone
  2. Included 2.17 kernel will work for s-on (HTC unlocked) and any hboot from 1.4 up
  3. If you want 100% 2.89 base, the 2.89 kernel is included in the MeanROM-ICS folder on your SD card
  4. Do not flash the 2.89 kernel unless you've upgraded your hboot to 1.58 s-off or you will get boot loops!
  5. To upgrade to 1.58 hboot, see the OP in this thread and yes, if you're 1.4 s-off you'll stay s-off but with 1.58
  6. If you have any trouble at all, do a super wipe and then install the above firmware and this ROM
  7. Go to "Menu", "Settings", "Power" and UNcheck "Fast Boot". When you reboot or power off the phone, you really want it to reboot/power-off. This can save you a lot of headaches.
