Root [CDMA] I need help, stuck in boot loop

I recently used the htc method to unlock my evo 3d, when I installed synergy, the wifi and 4g didn't work so I tried to install a kernel but i accidentally mistook it for a evo 3d kernel and installed the evo 4g wireless n kernel and now I'm stuck in a boot loop. Please help, I can still access recovery menu.

I have tried to use an ruu to restore it because I forgot to make a stable nandroid back up.

Can you replace specific kernels? because i've installed a few and it doesn't write over the one i need it to

the problem is that i installed the evo 4g
KERNEL_OTA_4.67.651.3_Stock_Wireless_N

It also might be when i installed the RCMIX kernel

i hope someone can help me im alittle new at this, i have a evo 3d hboot 1.5 and i went through the unlocking method on htcdev and got the code and unlocked the phone. now im stuck when i open cmd on my computer and i have the phone in fastboot usb i try to flash cwm-4.0.1.4-shooter its still zipped and my computer wont let me unzip it with winzip. so i tried to load it in cmd the way it is still zipped and it fails everytime. im so close to be doing done and im stuck can anyone help

first you can not and should not unzip the recovery image. you should download a new copy, rename it to recovery.img (in windows the .img may be hidden so if you dont see .img, just name it recovery or you will name it recovery.img.img) and put it in the same folder as fastboot. boot to bootloader and connect computer to laptop. issue command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and then you should get an output that will say finished or error. After you do this, report back.

Had the same problem last week all you have to do is downlaod the correct kernel to your computer and flash it using cmd.

Yes, you can replace specific kernels. You just have to make sure you flash the correct kernel for your setup. Do you have the latest firmware? If you're not sure, I'd recommend you flash the 2.17.651.5 RUU and that'll fix you up and you just will need to re-unlock and flash a proper ROM and kernel. That guide I posted will walk you through it.

First, you shouldn't use that version of CWM. It has a problem with charging if the device is off. You should use 4.0.1.5 at the very least. Honestly, I recommend using TWRP and the link that I posted earlier (here it is again) will give you direct links to TWRP 1.1 (which is the best/most reliable recovery IMO) and instructions on how to install it properly.

Sorry, but i'm not too sure about something.

How do you flash an ruu? Is it like a zip file you can use on the recovery because i've downloaded the .exe which requires your phone to be on and then a .zip which gets an error when i install off of zip

Also, Am i suppose to flash using Android SDK?

Is there a place to download the stock RUU? because I'm not sure if i'm downloading the right one

The 2.17.651.5 RUU is listed in the all things root guide sticky at the top of this forum. It'll be an exe that you run and it should guide you through the process. I've never ran one, but I've been told it's pretty straightforward. Just connect your phone to your computer and run the exe file.

If you're on the latest OTA, you should just be able to flash the stock ROM and be good to go (if you can get into recovery). I have a link to the stock ROM in my guide. For link see post #3.

I tried to use the RUU exe but it ends with an error when it tries to write the new rom in.
I tried to run it while the phone was in flashboot usb mode.

I have tried to flash the stock rom, it flashes but it still goes into the boot loop.

I have tried to flash:
Stock_Rooted_Deodex_WWE_2.17.651.5
OTA_Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5-2.08.651.3_release_2353522hivy65lggcg2tmb
Synergy-3DVO_RLS1_08-21-11(NIGHTLY)
WARM-3.5-evo3d-unofficial-r119
freEVO_3D-StockKernel_2.17.651.5
RCMIX_3D_EVO_kernel_v2.2.3
RCMIX_EVO3d_V13.1_OC_2WCR
Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_deodex.zip (and odex)
RUU_Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_Radio_1.06.00.1216_NV_NV_spcs_1.42_release_233304_signed

I think the problem is the KERNEL_OTA_4.67.651.3_Stock_Wireless_N (evo 4g kernel) installed to a location that the kernels for evo 3d doesn't use. I need to remove that specific kernel without replacing it with another kernel.

Hi thanks for the help but i did what you said on the link you gave and it keeps saying FAILED <remote: not allowed> i hope you know what im doing wrong

I tried it again and it says sending 'recovery' so i unplugged it waited tried again and got the failed remote not allowed message again

why did you unplug it when it said sending recovery? that is not a good thing to do

woops i didnt know that i was sitting and waiting and i must have waited like 10 minutes and it still didnt do anything and the phone wasnt responding so i unplugged it to make sure it was ok

make sure your htc sync is current and up to date. you should have no issues flashing recovery and if you continue to do so, we may need to look at sdk to make sure the fastboot drivers are fully installed and such

thanks everyone for your help i must have been typing the wrong thing but i got it flashed and put into recovery then flashed the super user zip i put on my sd card now im just trying to find super user on my phone

ok i got it rooted with a fully working superuser 3.0 thanks guys for the help i much appreciate it. does anyone know of a good kernel and rom to put on evo 3d

Can you provide a link to where you got that kernel? I really doubt the Evo 4G flashes kernels to a different location than the Evo 3D. But I'll crack it open and see where it's flashing the files to.

Also, have you wiped dalvik and cache partitions whenever trying to flash something new?

Which recovery are you using?

Did I miss something here, since when can we instal an EVO 4G Kernel on the 3VO ??

Your not getting my point, you are flashing an EVO 4G Kernel on the EVO 3D, they are 2 different phones

It just installed when i used the install from zip command on recovery menu

Are you saying it's not possible?

I know it was a stupid mistake that i did, but i'm still sure that it installed with the recovery menu.
