Root [CDMA] newb thinking of rooting

Lurker
Ok the goal is to tether my Evo3d to my Xoom.
I've done a lot of reading on here and am still greatly confused.
1. How do you know which ver of Hboot I have?
2. Will I lose the Sence interface?
3. Is there a thread with with, current instructions?

Thanks in advance!

1. If you have taken every update, you have 1.50. Easy way of checking: Menu button > settings > about phone > Software info

If you have Android 2.3.4, you took the latest update and have hboot 1.50.

2. Not unless you flash a ROM that removes Sense. These are called "AOSP" ROMs and are marked by "[AOSP]" in their titles. Some examples are CyanogenMod (CM7) and MIUI.us. There are some ROMs with a stripped down version of Sense, too. Best to avoid them if you want to keep Sense.

3. Wake covered it.

Thanks for the input. I'd rather do it without rooting but, I can't seem to find a cable that's micro to micro.
Thanks agin

Edit: I'be been looking on the web and then called cablestogo.com and can't figure out what I need to cable tether. It looks like both devices are "micro b" and they say there is no way to do that.
Can anyone tell me what cable I need?
Thanks again
