Root [CDMA] question about camcorder sound

i have an evo 3d with the stock sprint ics. its locked and s-on. im wondering if unlocking my phone will enable the camera and camcorder to be silent for when im in the woods hunting deer. i have been unlocked before but never s-off. also if i must unlock, what rom is recommended to use with the least chance for bootloops. ive tried a few camera apps and havent found any that could work properly and silence the camera. thanks for any help.

Before answering that question and guiding you through root, have you tried a different camera app, and have you also tried putting a sound profile widget on your home screen and silent your phone when you are hunting ?? As mentioned there are apps that also will allow for no sound.Keep me posted if that works if not then we can trouble shoot more.

I went ahead and rooted my phone. I'm still s-on but I flashed the zr3d xl Rom and its working great. Thanks for the suggestion though. The Rom seems to have silenced the camera as long as my sound profile is on vibrate or silent.
