I was temp rooted and waiting to permanent root. Now that the new update is out 2.3.4 I did the OTA, lost root and am now thinking of doing a permanent root. Can I use the permanent root methods described in this forum after the OTA update?

You could always try it. If your bootloader is still 1.40, then yes. If not...you'll have to wait until AlphaRevX and unrEVOked figure out how to achieve S-OFF again...or wait for the official HTC S-OFF tool.

Edit: NVM, according to Early, it does make it so S-OFF won't be possible for the time being. I guess HTC patched the exploit alpharev / unrevoked used.

Do NOT take the OTA update to 2.08.651.2 that's going out now - if you do, you'll be locked out of rooting for while.

I think it's possible this was as much a preparation for their own unlock as anything. We always knew they'd be needing to update the bootloader for that. No guarantees that I know or anything - just saying, possible.

Yes, but having to use HTC to unlock the bootloader, and you still don't get S-Off, and will most likely void your warranty, if you want the latest OTA update, I would root via Revo first and then flash the latest stock Rom with the latest update release posted on the site here.
So rooting a different way doesnt void your warranty? :P he never did get it to say S-Off but he was able to flash CWM and SU. Also did flash Synergy Rom too. Also i would agree with you, rooting with Revo is probably "safer" and easier. If people did do the updated and wanted root now, it works.
:Edit: i didnt say also enough Also
