Root [CDMA] S-Off, Rooting, and DeviceManager.

So, Im running the newest software on my EVO 3D. I have some questions.
1)Is S-Off the same as rooting? If not, Whats the difference?
2) Does S-Off give you superuser access?
3)Is this root permanent (How to Root HTC Evo 3D! [2.17.651.5+][HBOOT 1.50] - YouTube Is I do wire method s-off, will it make it permanent if its not?
4)I really want to root, but I dont know if I should wait until after we get ICS, or Do it now. Should I wait?
5) When the update finally does come out, and My phone is rooted, will the phone still be rooted? Will the root clash with the software update and destroy my phone?

Thanks if you help, Sprint couldnt answer any of these. I waited there forever, 3 TIMES!

NUMBER 3 IS THE MOST IMPORTANT!

Once you root your phone you could always flash back a stock Rom, your only issue is you are moist likely HBoot 1.5 which means you will have to use HTC to unlock your bootloader, and they will have that record, does not mean you can't reflash a stock Rom back and sell your device later on. S-on and S-Off means security on and off, being off definitely means you are rooted, being on could be rooted or not, depends on weather you rooted your phone. If you were to root your phone and take an OTA update, that would most likely unroot your phone. ICS is already out for rooted phones, so if you were to root now you could flash an ICS Rom, also HBoot 1.5 versus 1.4 is a difference in how you flash Roms, HBoot 1.5 requires that you flash Roms differently.
