Root [CDMA] Several questions on root from a noob...

Shake88

Newbie
I have an EVO 3D with HBOOT 1.5, so the HTC method is my only option at this point (maybe ever). I'll be following the guide do unlocking via the HTC method posted on XDA.

Here are my noob questions:

1. After using the HTC method to unlock, can I simply use the stock ROM?

2. If I use the stock ROM, can I run "rooted" apps such as Wifi Tether, etc?

3. If I choose to flash a ROM, can I make a backup of the stock ROM and go back to it (I'm assuming there are stock ROMs floating around out there)?

4. Is Titanium Backup the way to go for making backups?

5. Can anyone recommend a clean, fast ROM with working 4G and wifi tethering?

Yes
2. If I use the stock ROM, can I run "rooted" apps such as Wifi Tether, etc?
Yes as long as you flash the su file included with the instructions.
3. If I choose to flash a ROM, can I make a backup of the stock ROM and go back to it (I'm assuming there are stock ROMs floating around out there)?
Yes, it's always recommended you make a nandroid backup right after rooting for this exact reason.
4. Is Titanium Backup the way to go for making backups?
TB is more for apps. A full system backup is generally done from the recovery under the "nandroid" menu.
5. Can anyone recommend a clean, fast ROM with working 4G and wifi tethering?
CleanROM is basically just a cleaned up stock rom. All the bloat removed. That's what I'm using and very happy with it. Everything works fine. 4g and tethering included!

Not much to add to the above as it's all great info. I will say that System Tuner Pro also does app and data backups if you decide to backup with an app. It does all fo that and so much more too. It's an app that I actually didn't mind paying for.

Before you make any changes be sure to do a full nandroid so you have something to fall back on in case you screw something up.
