Root [CDMA] Stuck on 651.2. Should I be able to take HTC's OTA to get to 651.5, or do I need to unroot?

I rooted awhile back using HTC's HBOOT 1.5 method, but never got the opportunity to install a custom ROM. While browsing last night, I came across MeanROM and said "I need to have this". Unfortunately, I'm stuck on 651.2 with the associated older firmware.

I tried taking HTC's OTA figuring I would just need to re-root, but it kept erroring. Do I need to unroot to apply the update?

I've been sitting on the idea for a bit...I was going to wait for Rocky to put out his unroot guide, but meh...this is the 4th or 5th person asking how to do it, so I figured it's about time. really it's just a bunch of copy stuff from my newbie guide and his unroot guide.
