Help CDMA & time settings, microsd functionality samsung vitality r720 cricket

I would appreciate it if someone could answer the following questions for me regarding the samsung vitality preferably an existing owner.

1. Is it possible to turn off cdma while overseas as we travel a lot and the last used a lot of battery power searching for a network? Does CDMA automatically return when the phone is powered off and on? Does it prompt to turn back on? or is it necessary to manually turn it back on?

2. Is it possible to change the date and time when cdma is turned off as this is out of sync while we are overseas?

3. Are there 1 or 2 upto 32gb microsd card slots? can you use any card for muse music or do you have to buy their version to store their music on an sd card? if you use your own is it partitioned or reduced in size/ reserved etc?

4. Is it possible to root or jailbreak this phone? what will this enable? can someone provide full instructions on how to do this or a reliable link?

5. is it possible to unlock this phone for use on any network? Again a link or full instructions would be useful.

6. Finally we may receive this phone while in canada from a visiting family member. To use its android, music feature, wifi etc would we have to activate it or is it useable straight out of the box.

Any response would be greatly appreciated we are particularly interested to hear from those who own the phone and can test before answering the questions

Ok, I will try to answer the questions that I know of. No its not possible to turn off cdma. Cdma is part of the phones network it uses. You cannot even convert it to gsm.
As for the date and time, I dont know of a way to manually change it. It should change on its own with the network or at least thru wifi.
You can use another sd card on the vitality. I currently am using a 16gb sd card on mine. It does partition to fat32 but you dont loose much, unlike the muve sd card, (which sucks btw).
It is possible to root your phone. Check out this part: Admire - All Things Root - Android Forums of the forum and there you can root your phone, add clockworkmod and even install admiral beast to your phone. Theres also a few nice themes on there too, but remember to do a backup first.
Jailbreaking is not for androids.
Again, you cannot unlock this phone for any other network.
You need to have this phone connected in order to use it but if you got wifi then you can connect to the internet but not the muve. The muve does not work on wifi and requires a netwrok connection.
I myself own the vitality, its the same phone as the admire. I have it rooted and with clockworkmod and with admiral beast.

thanks for the reply. i have since found out a few more things. you can go in airplane mode to shut all wireless signals off inc cdma, bluetooth, wifi, you can also shut off bluetooth, wifi individually im not so sure about cdma though, i know its possible on other android cdma phones, but they were high end. theres must be apps for this too. You can adjust the date and time settings manually and deselect autoupdate with cdma servers. Theres also an app that syncs it with the net, so its internationally updated based on ip address (cant remember the name though). I presume you meant that no reservations or partitions are made with your own card as opposed to a muve card which reserves 75% for their music and then 25% for your stuff inc music etc etc. Thanks very much for the info.

I forgot to mention another question about this phone and i guess many android phones for that matter. I was wondering if the volume control, mic, answer call based headphones that work on iphone/ blackberry will work on this phone. Apparantly these headphones have 4 points of contact as opposed to the regularly 2, i havent been able to find out from samsung. If you have volume control headphones can you tell me if they work in this phone, if you dont have them just look in 3.5mm jack in the phone and tell me if there how many contact points there are.

I have found some samsung headphones for this model (admire 720) that support 3 points of contact (answering the call etc) you can see the number of contact points on the 3.5mm plug in the picture.

I have the headphones that came with the phone and yes it does have a 3 point contact and the push button to answer and hang up a call but as for volume control, I dont know there. I dont have that function.

thanks you have confirmed it will support atleast three points of contact. To support volume control it needs four points of contact if you remove the headphones from the phone and look into the socket in the phone you may have to put it near good light you will see atleast 3 layers (at different depths in the socket) of metal contacts, are there 3 or 4 sets of contact points? if there are 4 it will support volume control. Please post your answer if you could.

4 point contact = compatible models
3 point contact = unlisted devices
2 point contact = standard devices

it needs the jack (hardware) and software support to work though.
I would still like to know if this phone supports 4 point contacts.
