Root [CDMA] Which kernel should I use?

I've never flashed a kernel before. All ROMS I've used before have been already running a custom kernel. I hear that if you flash a kernel not compatible with your rom, you can brick it. I'm getting annoyed with the 1.2 ghz this phone is running, so my question is: Which kernel is best for CM7?

Flashing a kernel not meant for the ROM won't brick your phone, but it will make it so it doesn't work properly. If you want to OC, get the AnthraX kernel, it's awesome.

[KERNEL] AnthraX v2 [AOSP/SENSE/ICS]...now kangable

Just register with the forums and you'll be able to follow the download links. It's pretty hard to read all the dark colors on a black background, but eventually you'll get to where you can get the files.

Try this: wipe everything on your device then reinstall the shooter Sprint ROM then reroot with HTC unlock method. Then back up using Twrp. Once you're done with that go and pick up the latest version of MeanROM which is v3.5. Flash it and make sure you read the instructions. There are two ways to go about getting the best out of this ROM and kernel. If you want a phone that lasts more than a day then you pick the first option it says. But if you want a super powered 1.5ghz phone then go with the second one. The ROM uses the anthrax kernel. It's awesome because you get max speed when using your phone but when. The screen is locked it underclocks to save battery. Totally awesome and worth it. Btw I'm using it now

If he's happy with CM7, installing the CM7 version of the AnthraX kernel would be a simple fix to allow him to OC. Plus if he's rooted with revolutionary, installing HBOOT 1.5 and having to use the HTC dev method is not an upgrade. People are able to flash the firmware of the latest OTA without taking HBOOT 1.5. S-OFF is awesome like that :p

Also, some ROMs are not good for some people. MeanROM is, indeed, an excellent ROM. But it's not the ultimate ROM. I don't run it. I've tried multiple versions with multiple kernel configurations and it just isn't stable on my device. Some people do not like Sense and will run CM or other AOSP ROMs. Personally, I like to be able to theme my ROMs and MeanROM is the worst at being able to theme, because it updates every 3 days. Plus I don't like how MeanROM automatically OCs and UVs, which may not be stable on everyone's devices. Look at ViperROM's change log. Those guys had to tweak the undervolting levels several times over the course of their ROM history because UV is not something that you can just apply a blanket to. CPU tweaks and UV tweaks should be something people do manually, in steps. Although with this device, OC'ing to 1.5 is pretty safe, because that's what Qualcomm rated the processor for. HTC underclocked it for power savings.
