Help Cell Standby is eating up my battery

All,

Starting last week I cannot get more than 24 hours on a single charge. I am not running Wi Fi or Data, and not even really using the phone much. It just sits there in power saving mode.

The battery usage report shows Cell Standby being resposible for upwards of 60% of the usage.

Any idea what's going on? I used to be able to go several days without charging my phone but now it's being drained in less than a day.

Even when not having anything active on it and not using the phone at all? Ouch.

I have a replacement battery on the way. We'll see if that does the trick.

Well,

After a few days the issue corrected itself without me making any changes whatsoever.

If the phone is having a tough time getting a Cell signal, does it drill the battery down trying to find one?

As Treb said, yes. Due to the limit battery capacity cellphone are designed to only look (send a signal) with just enough power to get to the first cell tower it can see. This also stops a phone from grabbing multiple towers since someone else may be on the exact same signal freak which would cause all kinds of problems.

As your phone lacks in finding a signal, the programming will tell the phone to reach out further and further till it finds a signal. This will then take gradually much more power. And in a short time you will see your battery go bye bye.

Verizion Cell/Data technology is a batter sucker, way worse than ATT. The biggest drain seems to be the data side of the verizion network. When I get into weak areas, I turn off the data and save a lot of battery drain.
