Help Certain Headphones causing volume to erratically change itself in Jelly Bean

edit: Just realised that this may be better suited for the Samsung Galaxy S3 subforum, although it may be a (rare or otherwise) universal problem with JB as well - if a mod sees it appropriate, could s/he please move it there? Thanks!

Hi,

My Sol Republic HD Tracks headphones have been causing this problem for a while now - that is, causing the volume to either increase all the way to maximum or minimum (the same effect as holding the volume rocker, as you see the display come up and the bar go to the end), but usually maximum, causing frequent annoyance.

This has been the case with the stock Jelly Bean, Baked, Cyanogenmod, and Liquid Smooth ROMs. I've tried various third-party app solutions like volume locking etc., but even then, it doesn't eliminate the problem completely.

I should note that in the short periods I tested a pair of normal earphones I had (can't remember the brand - it's a medium-range brand only sold in Asian countries), this problem didn't occur - although sometimes the phone would disable sound altogether and I had to reboot to get it working again.

I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy s3 i9300 (GT-I9300),
BAKED rom version baked_i9300_bb-8
Kernel version 3.0.64-CM-gcba0718
baked@baked-OEM #1

Furthermore, if the problem alleviates during the first few minutes of use, provided I keep music playing and don't unplug the headphones, it'll stop happening. It's usually only when I first plug it in that it happens - generally, I'll plug the headphones in, the music will start itself (an expected feature), then the volume will blast right up to maximum.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
jt
