Mods Change app name/icon [Stock only]

What is the best way to change the name/icon of an app for my own personal use? I'm not a developer and I'm not rooted. I've read about apk tool and apk studio and I'm wondering if they work for third party apps on non rooted phones.

On the homescreen? Long-press the icon. Press Edit. Change it there.

In the app drawer? No idea.

The ability to do this depends on your launcher. I use Nova Launcher, and it allows changing of desktop shortcuts. Just long press and select 'Edit'.

Nova Launcher has free and pay versions.
