Change Carrier in Notification Shade?

I'm looking for a way to change the "Sprint" in my notification shade on CM10.1 to something else. On the rush all I had to do was copy a specific eri.xl to /data and it would change to whatever was in the file. I've tried that, putting it in /data/data as well, tried an app, none worked.

I've tried editing the eri.XML file that's in the framework-res.apk, but once edited with a different carrier name I get thrown in a boot loop. Only option you have is to use a ROM that has that feature (AOKP, Rootbox, PACman)

For what it's worth, GC01 rom does not identify the carrier in the notification bar - only on the lockscreen.
