Change File Permissions

I am using both a Samsung Galaxy SIII and Galaxy Note II. I have an Excel file on both that I wish to change the permissions for. Currently they are both -rw, which I understand to be Read & Write??? I wish to change them to be Read Only therefore when I come to save them they will error and I will be forced to save as a different filename.

I would of thought this was a simple thing to do but all of the File Apps I have don't seem to be able to do it. Any suggestions would be great.

As far as I know files can't made read-only via Android OS.

Using the Office apps DocsToGo and Polaris I wasn't able to set an Excel file on write-protected with a password.

What Office app have you used?
