Change hotspot network address

How can I change the hotspot IP address from the 192.168.43.0/24 default?

It overlays an existing wifi network I need to route to via VPn and its either change one phone, or 20 odd devices/access point/DNS/DHCP and so on - a major effort from thousands of miles away

Its a samsung galaxy II on the Oz vodafone network. So far google hasnt hinted that its even changeable

First off welcome to the forums

From what i can tell it looks like your device automatically assigns itself a static IP once the hotspot is turned on, meaning unfortunately that it will probably not change even when turning it off and on again. And from what i can tell it looks like there are no settings within Wireless & Networks about changing the IP address it defaults too.

And i am confused is it giving just an IP address or is the one you gave us the actual IP, because the IP that your router gives out to the devices on your network are local IP's which can be changed when the router is restarted, and all the devices would automatically reconnect, hopefully not overlaying that same IP again causing an IP address conflict.

unfortunately it looks like its the default range the hotspot always hands out and I cant find any way to change it. The device is not rooted and poking around what I can access inside the filesystem doesnt show anything I can change.

So I am hoping someone can suggest an app that will allow it to be changed, or replace the standard hotspot function - though it works well enough, just the unexpected IP clash. It does seem like a major oversight to not have it configurable

192.168/16 is a reserved IP range so can't be routed, Bill. It's intended purely for use in internal networks; any devices using that subnet must go through some sort of router that presents an unambiguous IP address to the world.

For this reason the AP will have an external IP address, which will be assigned by Vodafone to your mobile data connection. With wifi OFF and connected to the mobile network, I think this can be seen in Settings/About phone/Status.... IP address. This is the IP address that will be visible to the outside world when the hotspot is enabled.
