When you click a key on the Samsung keyboard you don't see the key-popup like on the iPhone or on a HTC device.
Is there any way to change this keyboard?

Yes, get a new keyboard app. There a many around, some free some for a small fee. Try some out. I like SmartKeyboard myself which has this but there are many others to choose from depending on your needs..

Wow you can really customize every part about android. :D

Do I have to root it first to deactivate the standard keyboard?

Is it possible to get the original HTC Keyboard? I have read very often that their keyboard is the best.

just go to

settings
locale text
select default keyboard
select samsung keyboard or android keyboard.. android keyoboard has predictive texts

the keys pop up on my vibrant! :D

but i prefer swype!

Thank you, this looks promising. Did you already try it out with the Galaxy S if it's working flawlessly?
I'm using this as my default keyboard for whenever I text or write e-mails in my native language (Swedish), as the Swype that come preloaded with the Galaxy S does not support Swedish (however Swedish Swype is apparently available in the firmware upgrades, but I'm waiting for an official firmware before upgrading). Coming from a HTC Hero it's a pleasant and familiar experience.

For English however I still prefer Swype.

But does it have a Swedish layout? When I tried it I could not find it and I can't be bothered to use a for

I thought I would like using Swype but did not. So I uninstalled it and was surprised to find that my keyboard changed. Thanks to this thread I installed SmartKeyboard and after just a few minutes of testing determined it was a great replacement for what I lost Just paid for the Pro version. Thanks for the suggestion.

Update on the SmartKeyboard. After visiting the developer site it was really easy to create my own skin to go with the look of my phone's theme. Very nice!
