Change NIC Connection Speed

Hello,
I have one of those X92 Android TV boxes which is supposed to have a gigabit lan. I'm only just learning Android and have found a "speed" file in sys/devices/<device>/eth0 which says the speed is 100 which I'm assuming is 100Mbps since when I measure transfer speeds from my W10 laptop I'm only getting a max of 95Mbps. Since the device is rooted I tried updating this "speed" file directly but all I got from ES Note Editor was the file was not saved.
I then started looking at ethtool but I'm not sure how to get that on this Android box. I've ended up with ifconfig and went through all the commands but I still cannot work out how to force the speed.
I assumed the box should negotiate the speed but this auto negotiation may be off. Of course it's possible the NIC is only 100Mbps in which case the spec was wrong. Trouble is all the sys info tools I've looked at give me no information about the NIC.
This is all a long way round in asking how I may be able to get this NIC up to speed, if possible. Of course all help is appreciated. I'm happy to read documentation but am conscious that I am ignorant of most of the inner workings of Android and don't want to waste my time reading irrelevant stuff.

Regards,

Ralfy
