Changing camera resolution on boot/camera open?

I'm new to Tasker, and not sure if it'd actually be better to make a script to do this (not that I'd know how to do that, anyway!).

I've been using CM on various devices since before 7 came out. I never noticed this issue before, but it may have happened and I just wasn't paying attention.

Every time I install a nightly (on CM 10.1 VS920) nowadays, the camera resets to the lowest possible resolution (1.3 MP). Which isn't a huge deal, it's just that some times I forget to change it back to 8 MP before I start taking photos.

I've searched the forum and Google pretty extensively but haven't found a solution for this, which is why I'm thinking maybe if there's a way to make this happen in Tasker, for example right after rebooting (I only ever reboot after an install anyway), that'd be awesome.

I messed around with Tasker a little bit, and tried to follow some how-tos, but I can't figure out a way to change Camera settings, at least not the resolution, with an action.

Any assistance would be really great.

Thanks in advance!

I can't see Tasker being able to do that for you directly (anyone, prove me wrong please).
Unless you want to take your pictures through Tasker, with which you can set the pictures' resolution, but you wouldn't get a preview when taking them.

Maybe the easiest way would be to install stable versions of Cyanogenmod? :p

Hang on, actually, there might be a way...

It would be possible to take pictures through Tasker, with a fixed resolution:

Profile: Taking Pics
Application > Camera

Task: Camera Started
Variables > Variable Set: %CameraRunning to yes

Exit Task: Camera Stopped
Variables > Variable Set: %CameraRunning to no

---

Profile: Vol To Take A Photo
Event > Variables > Variable Set: %VOLR
State > Variables > Variable Value: %CameraRunning matches yes

Task: Take Photo
Media > Take Photo: Camera: rear, Filename: photo, Naming Sequence: chronological, Resolution: 3264x2448

Now every time the camera is running and you press on one of the Volume buttons (as long as you don't put it to vibrate or silent), then Tasker will take the picture to the resolution you chose.
If you have a camera button on your device, you can use it as well (with a changfe to the profile obviously).

Alternatively, and I personally would prefer this solution, you can make the device show you a reminder (toast or notification), every time you start the camera app, that you should check the resolution. Or even just once after a reboot:

Profile: Device rebooted
Event > System > Device Boot

Task: Enable Resolution Reminder
Task > Wait: 1 minute (it is advised to wait a bit for the device to be ready to perform tasks)
Variables > Variable Set: %ResReminderEnabled to yes

---

Profile: Camera running 1st time after boot
Application > Camera
State > Variables > Variable Value: %ResReminderEnabled matches yes

Task: Show Resolution Reminder
Alert > Flash: "Don't forget to set the correct resolution first!"
Variables > Variable Set: %ResReminderEnabled to no

Oh my goodness, thank you! Apparently I should also look into init.d editing, however that works (totally over my head). So for now I'll try out at least the toast notification idea, and possibly your first suggestion.
Many thanks!
