Changing default text program

If I change the default text app on my Droid Razr Maxx HD to go SMS pro, does a copy of the texts still go to the 'standard' text program, or is it bypassed altogether? Thanks!
 
Hello and welcome to Android Forums! :)

If you change the default, but checked in the stock app, you would still see the messages. You may or may not need to turn off notifications for the stock app.
