Changing firmware to DXKL3 a good idea?!?

I have faced several problems aftere rooting my phone. Display problem which percent my phone from properly displaying shades of black, severely affecting my camera and video player quality.

After looking at the original firmware thread in xda forums, i total of switching to this firmware: DXKL3. But im afraid that flashing it directly with odin could potentially mess up my phone. Please help!! Or provide alternatives!!!

Here are my phone info:

Model no: GT-I9100
Android Ver: 2.3.3
Baseband Ver: I9100CCKDH
Kernel Ver: 2.6.35.7-I900DXKH2-CL483911root@DELL138#2
Build no: GINGERBREAD.XWKDD

My phone is from Singapore so the original firmware should be the asian one (DXKI2).

Help me out cos i am really worried about sending it back for repair since i have already rooted my phone.

Ah, I probably should have guessed given the proximity of 'C' to 'X'.

If you're XX then you should be fine with DWKL3. You can get it here.
 
When i flash both the pda and csc files with odin, will the phone lose its root? Any chance i might lose anything?
 
I imagine so, since you're flashing stock firmware over the top. So you'll have to root again. No real chance of losing anything if all goes successful, but things can go wrong during the process. I recommend doing a CWM backup and titanium backup before going ahead.
 
Is using titanium backup good enough? I backup my apps and msg through that. What is the use of a CWM backup? I would like to know what it does and how do i get about getting it done.

titanium backup only backs up apps and their data

a CWM backup (nandroid backup) is a complete backup of your system files etc ie. will restore your phone to exactly how it is right now. in the event of cocking things up during flashing, it would allow you to restore your phone to exactly where you were. do both.

do this by either going into the cwm app, or into recovery mode. it's very easy, but does take 10 minutes or so.
 
I want to use clockworkmod to do a nandroid backup so i downloaded Rom manager and usedbit to boot into recovery mode. But what followed was this mag: Failed to verify whole file signature.

If im not wrong it means my kernel has disabled the use of clockworkmod. Guide me if im wrong. So is there any other way i can do a backup of my phone so that i can remain assured even if there is a problem when i upgrade to dxkl3?

Rom manager has caused many a problem on gs2. Uninstall it!

To enter cwm go into recovery mode - turn off and then press vol up/home/power together. Then choose back up and restore option.
 
If i were to root again, that means im taking chances without any backup right?

As see my previous posts, my phone is as such. But i can't find a kernel that is closest to my phone's "XWKDD'. Hence which should i choose?!!
 
I can boot into recovery manually but there's no option for backup so im guessing its just the stock recovery mode as it only says things like reboot system, wipe data, factory reset. Funny thing is when i look at file.manager, i have a folder called clockworkmod. Please advice me.

With regards to the link for cf root that you gave, what should i do with it? Just flash with odin? Any chances things will mess up?
 
There's always going to be a risk with flashing. It would be wrong if I told you otherwise. But the cfroot method is the simplest and easiest as long as you follow the instructions. To be honest as long as you feel comfortable go for it. I don't think its muchdifferent to superoneclick, there's just one less step.
 
So if i flash that file you gave, then only my kernel will change rite? The rest will still remain the same and i will have the ability to get into cwm recovery mode right?
 
Thanks soso much for everyone who has helped me on my trechearous path to a new firmware. I have succeeded without hickups and now this is my phone's info:

And ver: 2.3.6
Baseband: DXKL1
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100DXKL3- ... ...
Build: GINGERBREAD.DXKL3

Now resolution and camer issue has been solved my desired firmware has been achieved. Only thing is that, it was stated in the XDA thread (which contained official stock firmware links) that after flashing a stock rom the phone should not be rooted and thus need to be rooted again.

However, i still see the superuser app on my drawer? Did i do smth wrong? Another question is that can i still use my clockworkmod recovery mode to get my nandroid backup again since my phone has now been 'un-rooted'?

Ok i will re root. What method should i use if i don't wanna use superoneclick? cf root? if so which should i choose?

Up til now i have not done any phone wipe or data clearing at all. I see ppl mentioning it and all. If i were to decided on flashing a new Rom like checkrom, should i wipe and when should it be done? :)
 
Chain fire. Find the KL3 cf root file on his page and follow instructions.

Full wipe is first job before installing a custom rom. Not needed for rooting.
 
So i will flash the kl3 kernel and do a nandroid and titanium backup again. How then do i proceed with the data wipe / full wipe?

Another thing is clearing the kernel count. What is that? is it important?

You can data wipe / full wipe using CWM Recovery. There's an option in there.

The kernel count will tell someone knowledgeable enough that you have tried to modify the firmware of your phone. It is undesirable to have a kernel count for warranty purposes. If you don't intend to break your phone, don't worry :P The kernel count can be cleared using a usb jig. I got one off ebay for about AUD$2.
