Changing Google Account address

When I get my new phone (hopefully in the next week or so) I will obviously want the apps I paid for to be on the new phone.

The email address I associated my current phone with is no longer my regular email address. In fact, I really never check it. Google Play is "connected" to that address. Is there a way for me to change it AND have my apps know that too? If not, is it possible to have 2 email addresses attached so that future apps I download will be attached to my current email address?

I don't really understand the Google connectedness. I have a Google mail/Google + address that is my primary address. Any calendar stuff, email, etc. I do is through my m_____ account, not the jb_____ account I was using 2 years ago.

I'm in the U.S. and have Verizon as my carrier.

TIA,
Jenny

Any purchased app is associated with a Google account and a particular device; it sounds as if you'll be changing both. I understand that some apps allow installation on multiple compatible devices from one Play Store purchase account.

Here's what Retrieving previously purchased applications - Google Play Help says:

'Retrieving previously purchased applications -- Your application purchases are tied to your Google Account and can be installed an unlimited amount of times on any device. So, for example, if you remove "My Favorite Game" to save memory, you can reinstall it at a later date with no charge by simply visiting My Apps. You can also re-install apps from play.google.com from the My Android Apps section.
If you are being asked to purchase an application you have already purchased on Google Play on an existing or previous device, you might be using a different account than the one you were using at the time you made your purchase. Because the application is associated with a different Google Account, you are being charged to purchase it again. Additionally, if you are missing certain apps (free or paid), they might be registered under a different Google account. Fortunately, you can recover access to these apps by simply switching the account you’re currently signed into on Google Play.'

I'll advise that you call Google and explain your particular set of circumstances to them so that they might make exceptions for you.

You can set up your new device with your original account as the main phone account & add another gmail account via Settings>Accounts & Sync>Add Account.

Then uncheck all options for the account you don't want to use.
