Changing home screen apps

How do you change the standard apps along the bottom of the screen? I want to show Handcent SMS and not the standard messaging app

open the app drawer and press menu key and select edit and drag the app you wanna place in the bottom dock (you can't change the app drawer icon's position), hope i helped (as i'm also new to android)
