Changing Icons

I have just recived my Nexus 5 and have seen some other people posting pictures of their screens. I have noticed that the apps for the phone etc have got different icons. How do you change the default app icons?

Do you have to change the launcher to acheive this?

Thanks.

I don't know if it's possible to change the icons without a different launcher, because I always use Nova launcher straight away. But anyway, with nova launcher for example, i long press on the original icon on the homescreen, and an option to edit appears. Then you can browse your gallery for icons, or browse icon packs you've downloaded from the play store.

no, you cannot change icons with the stock form that comes with the phone... there are a couple different ways to change icons off the top of my head, but any which way you decide to do it, there will be a learning curve.... i just want you to beware of that, some ppl really get messed up with the 2 "homes" once a launcher is installed.

if you REALLY would like to start customizing to this extent, then I can help you, but be prepared for a lengthy explanation ;)

Thanks for your help. It would be nice to know how to change them.
sure, i will start to compose something once i get home from work. please bare with me as i will try to make the explanation as simple as possible.

im assuming you're new to Android?
