changing images for folders

Hi all,

I've created some folders for my music, games, apps etc.. but would like to change the folder image as it's just the standard light-yellow coloured file image.

I know this is possible as i've seen it on some ppl's screenshots but not too sure if it's only possible if your phone is rooted..?
