Root Changing Startup/Shutdown sounds

Ok, so my wife and I purchased the MetroPCS varient (5020N) as an MP3/game play, etc phone for my children. I rooted one of them and gave it to my oldest son. He played around and changed his start up/shutdown sounds. It can be done through the sound menu, but that only works if you put the tone you want on the internal sd card (which takes up vital space) since during bootup, the external SD card isn't mounted until after the phone is booted. He wanted to share what he did, so here are the steps he took, via a root browser of your choice:

How to change your start up sound
1 - Memorize the name of the mp3 sound in the folder /system/media/audio/power_on(important, you will need the name later)
2 - Pick a new 1-4 second sound, and copy it to /system/media/audio/power_on.
3 - delete(or rename) the alcatel provided sound
4 - Rename the mp3 to the name you memorized
in the first step

How to change your shut down sound
1 - Memorize the name of the mp3 sound in the folder /system/media/audio/power_off(important, you will Memorize the name later)
2 - Pick a new 1-4 second sound, and copy it to /system/media/audio/power_off.
3 - delete(or rename) the alcatel provided sound
4 - Rename the mp3 to the name you memorized
in the first step

Now, if you choose the rename the original sound, just add a .bak to the file name.

I followed this same method, only I didn't have to rename the default sound. I just put the sound I wanted into the folder, restarted my phone, and it was available to be selected. Nice tutorial! Thanks!
