Root changing the firmwire

Hi,
I am using an Xperia S. My firmwire is ICS currently. It is rooted, (but I do not know how to root a phone, my friend did it, when he used to use it). Now I want to change it to Jelly bean. But with PC Companion I am unable to do it. I do not know the manual system to update it. Can some one please tell me the steps?

thank you.

Per my PM, I've moved this to the "All Things Root" section, as this is a root related issue.

The process of changing the firmware is not the same once you are rooted - you shouldn't really use the standard method. Do you know if your friend put a custom recovery (like clockworkmod) on your phone?

I don't actually have your device, btw... I will try to help though or perhaps one of our members with the same phone could help you out :)

Well, since its rooted does it have a recovery? If so flash a stock Rom from XDA. If not, your bootloader is probably unlocked, that's why you can't do it the "normal" way.
