Changing what's on the home's side panes

Hi there everyone,

I recently picked up an HTC Incredible running on the Verizon network. I'm enjoying it, but would like to change what shows on the home panes.

What I mean by this is that when you bring the display up, you have your time, weather and icon set, which is dandy. If I scroll one to the left, I have the HTC mail(which I don't use). Another swipe to the left, I have Google calendar(which I don't use). one more, and I have a blank pane in which I can place more icons.
I'd really like the first swipe to the left to be a blank pane.

I'd greatly appreciate any help someone might be able to provide in customizing this :)

thanks,

Not trying to be rude, but you can easily find this out by reading the manual that came with the phone, or doing a search on here or google.

To organize your homescreen there are two ideas: long-press anything and drag down to remove it, and long-press an open space to add something to it. You can add shortcuts to any app you have, widgets, folders etc.

Thanks for almost paying attention to my problem. I don't have a problem with placing shortcuts. These seem to be actual apps. Pressing and holding doesn't seem to affect it at all. I've Googled but think I'm being stymied by not knowing the particular terminology of the bits & bobs that I'm dealing with.

PS: kudos on trying to not be rude. You were quite condescending, but totally polite during the whole process.

Thanks,
Json

Well you asked how to remove the Mail widget so you can get a blank pane, and I told you how. Long press the widget (ie hold down for a second or so) when it becomes loose, there will be a trash can at the bottom of the screen. Drag it down into that.

hold your finger on what you want to move. it will break free from the screen after a few seconds. at that point you can drag it to the edge of the screen to move it to another.

Is there a way that you know of to lock an applet? When I press and hold any icon, I can move or delete it. Pressing and holding the HTC mail applet doesn't seem to be doing anything. I've looked under settings while on that panel but don't see an option to unlock it.

Thanks,
Json

It's not locked. And they're called widgets, FYI.
It helps to click it away from any user controls, but it shouldn't matter that much. Keep your finger in the same spot.

Thanks very much to everyone helping. It seems that my problem was my fingers. A touch screen combined with a person with tremors makes for some funny learning curves.

Thanks again to all for your help!

God bless ya, if you can't remove a widget, you will be AMAZED to what else you find out about this phone haha.

I mean imagine if he ever gets Launcher Pro Plus where he can re-size widgets and change the dock (among many other things)

Thanks for the blessings and +1 to you guys for confusing motor tics with ineptitude. Top notch.

+1 for trying to blast people who helped you and DIDNT call you inept by trying to make people feel bad.

You said you wanted to know how to do something VERY SIMPLE. People tried to help you.

+1 for shooting the hand that tried to help you.

For those scoring at home.... +2 for you!

I thanked them though, so really, I didn't do a whole lot of biting.

1+0=1.

Of course, I don't teach math, but after googling, I'm almost positive that this is right.

Then maybe reading isnt your strong suit? In my post there were 2 (two) "+1" . Hence +2

Thanks for ignoring the big picture which was a newbie (you) coming in, asking a simple question, and then when people tried to help, you pull out a physical ailment as an excuse instead of just learning.

People here tried to help you and will continue to help you (because people here are nice that way). I was just trying to suggest you dont attack them.

Have a wonderful day. If you have other questions, I and others will be happy to help you. I just hope you dont attack everyone when they try to help.

You forgot to start your post with "I don't mean to be rude"....

Just pointing that out.

Thanks for the offer of future assistance!

PS: another +1 to you for pulling the "fake ailment" card! You internet gangster, you!

PPS: That's +2 for you now. I know that because you had already done the math in a previous post.

I NEVER CALLED IT FAKE. Try reading it again. Unreal how you put words in my mouth.

I honestly was offering some advice about attacking the hands that help you and you try to make me look bad by LYING saying I called your ailment "fake".

Hehe, ok, if you say so... <wink, wink>

thanks,

I assume this is your way of saying you refuse to ever admit you are wrong. I never said or suggested it was fake. You are the one who chose to read my comment incorrectly.

I seriously was trying to help you but you obviously would rather read the worst into people even when they try to help you.

I seriously hope you have a wonderful day/night.

(PS there is no sarcasm in this post whats-so-ever. If you chose to read any into it, don't blame me.)

I promise I won't blame you for any sarcasm in your last post.

I hope you have a fantastic night as well.

thanks,

Json,

I honestly did not mean to insult or offend you. I think you read into my posts a bit harshly. My apologies if they read sarcastic, rude, or insulting.

People here are very happy to help you. Myself being one of them.

Have a nice night.

Fram, I've got thick skin and I took an oath with the WWW league of newbie forum posters not to take the internet too seriously. I was having a bit of fun with you and am left virtually unscathed from the thread's progression. As always, I'm appreciative of any help provided and will try to play the docile luddite better the next time we bump into each other in another thread :)

thanks,
