Help charger plugged in but not charging

Last night i plugged in my charget at 4% but 2 hours later i checked it's still at 4%
The charging symbol is on and the phone feels very hot, but it's not charging

I unplugged the charger, restarted the phone, plugged in charger again and it worked
This is the first time this has happened to me in almost 2 yearz
Does anyone know why it did this?

The phone was consuming all amperage of the charger, so the battery got nothing.
The cause? Some app was running very hard ... my guess, an app with a bug.

so there's an app bug that used up exactly the power that goes in?

Not exactly. Something like this leads to a complicated regulatory process.
With nothing left of battery as 4% capacity, the phone's processor/OS would shut down processes in order to prevent that the battery would be completely discharged.

could it be that i didn't plug in the charger properly?
but then the charging symbol is on and the phone is hot

The phone got hot because it consumed the chargers amperage instead charging the battery.

I'd not worry about this single issue :)

With my Sony tablet a few weeks ago, yes.
In the evening with 40% on the charger and in the morning instead charged to 100% it was down to 10%. I noticed no heating up, but that could been happened in the night (on my tablet I've not a measure app).

Was the charging symbol on?

Was the charging symbol on?

In the evening when I leaved the tablet in its dock, yes ... and I'm sure because I look for this every evening.
In the morning I don't know because the tablet was in stand-by with the display off when I fetched it.
After breakfast I noticed the 10% when I switched on the tablet.
The charging dock works fine, so I think it wasn't the reason for this charging failure.

i see
so it could be some random app causing massive power usage like u said
i'm just worried that there's something wrong with my battery
thanks for the help

did u find out which app caused this on ur tablet?

No, and it would need much time to reproduce such an issue.
If this not occurs often I let it go :)

There is absolutely no software without bugs.

I've also had this problem once.
It was late in the afternoon when I got home, charged my phone and went to sleep. When I plugged it in, it was 4%, when I woke up, it was 22% but the phone was scorching hot. I don't know what caused it but I let it cool of first, battery and phone separated, then charged it again.
