Chargers

Was wondering if the charger that I have for my old Samsung cell will work with my new SGS3, and for that matter will my old house charger work as well?

If the plug is exactly the same and the out put is the same, then I don't see why not. I would not use one with two different brand phones though.

I believe there are different USB volts/amps (3 different?), make sure you use the correct cable but the plug should be universal.

If you use an non-compatible cable most phones will warn you upon plug-in.

Yes and no. You need to check the output because not all MicroUSB chargers are the same. They put out different power and most of the cheaper 3rd party ones put out only 500mA (0.5A) or less. If you use this on the SGS3 or LTE Evo or similar they will keep the power level from depleting but they won't increase the charge level. What you need is a charger that puts out 1.0A+ and this is generally the case with OEM chargers but you will need to check to be sure.

Something I came across when using a USB charger from one device on other devices. I've got a USB charger that came with a PMP, when plugged into my Android devices, the touch screens become disabled and unresponsive for some reason when they're plugged into this charger, although they charge OK with it. Disconnect the charger and the touch screens work again.

All the USB chargers I've got are the standard two-pin affairs that come with most Chinese devices.

I have a small adapter from wall outlet to USB that makes the phone behave like that, touchscreen not working.
I also noted that cheap car chargers with low amperes are no good for power hungry phones. With a Nokia N900 with GPS for example the phone actually discharges even with the charger connected. And when its drained fully it wont start charging with the cheap adapter, a lesson learned on a vacation where we got a bit lost :)

All my devices share one charger except one needs it's own, my Transformer Prime. A regular phone charger simply doesn't work because the output is too low.

Two different brand phones? Why be the first to reply to a thread when you have no idea what you're talking about? I never understood this mentality. You're not helping, you're hurting with your misinformation.

I said about the output like you are all saying and the different phones put out the different outputs. The same thing you all just said. Wow!

No, you didn't. You wouldn't use one with two different brand phones? ROFL That's about the least important factor in this conversation.

Try reading the second post it says out put, so maybe a space in the words, but meant for output. As for part of the conversation, I can use my charger that is for a samsung and works in a nokia (many, many times), bolth (different brands), and the nokia won't charge mine at all, (different brands).

Look, thing that's most important with chargers is the battery output and input. Basic rule is, do not use a charger whose ouput is less than 0.5C of the battery, and do not use one with an output of more than 1.3C
