Charging HOT

Newbie here,

Nexus 4 charging issue - gets warm when charging. Recurring problem, but last night I woke up and it was almost too hot to touch, which is a first. I'm a little worried about lithium fire now.

Charges fine from usb, which I will now do from my computer during the day. Attached is photo of battery, you can see where it randomly stopped charging in the night and started heating up.

Heat is much worse when charging from nexus 10 charger as last night. That's a larger capacity (?) so could be related if it's just converting all available energy to heat? Short circuit?

Thanks for help,

Rog

Looks like a fault to me, probably the battery itself. I'd get it looked at if I were you; since you mention "fire" you clearly know about the perils of a misbehaving lithium battery and/or a faulty charge circuit.

Don't trust that the lower current available from a USB port is safe - it isn't, not if there's a fault in the phone's charging system.

Yeah... Looks like a faulty battery, since you tried the normal stuff like cable, charger, etc.

It actually isn't that hard to replace the N4's battery, there are lots of videos on YouTube how to do it, just make sure you get yourself some good, small precision screwdrivers... If you strip the head on a battery hold down screw, your "screwed"

Thanks, I'll take this as an excuse to invest in a precision screwdriver set :)
