Help Charging in area with no cell service

Texanna

Lurker
We recently moved to a rural area that has no cell phone service. I still need my Prevail when I'm at work or out and about, but of course can't use it while at home. Since we have moved my Prevail has stopped taking a charge. I don't know if they are related or not, but I've tried putting the phone on airplane mode so it will not be searching for a signal, thinking maybe it was expending more power searching than it was gaining through the charger. I could turn it off, but I'm used to the phone as an alarm in the morning, and I can't seem to find my alarm clock.

It is about time to get a new phone, and I hate to spend $40 on a new battery for a phone that I will be replacing in a few months. Any ideas?

Hello Texanna. When at home, go into the Settings main menu and then Networks and disable (via checkbox on most Android devices) network data. That will stop the device from polling for tower signals. Be sure roaming data is off as well.

Here's an update: I followed up on Frisco's advice by turning off network settings and data settings, then plugged the phone in. The battery was still draining, so I turned the phone off.

At bed time, I turned the phone back on, and lo and behold, it was fully charged. I left everything off and put it in airplaine mode all night, but the alarm went off this morning.

It is still holding a charge so far.

Thanks for saving me some money and worry!

Seems to me you might have an app installed who constantly tries to update ( like news or sport scores, etc. ) and accesses the network a lot......

If your battery is still draining, check >>>>Settings>>>Apps>>>Running and see what is active...... by clicking on it, you can close a possible culprit..... Once you find the culprit, you can use an app called "Autostarts" (not Autostart !!! ) to prevent the culprit from running...... ;)

Good luck !

Good call V. I was thinking the same thing about an app running in the background. Facebook is one of those apps that'll kill a battery. I( usually freeze it with Titanium when not in use. Autostarts is another way to stop the app w/o uninstalling it. I have that app too. .

Another good idea is to use the browser for those few apps that run all the time, or like wet said, just freeze them. For great battery life I also turn data off and then on when I use the phone, also turn off auto sync and just manually sync. You will still get texts and calls with data off, When you grab your phone you just turn on data and check twitter, email, ect.... You won't get notifications, but increases the battery life big time!
