Help Charging issues

Hey all
Have a samsung s5 here that is doing some crazy stuff. The phone flickers between charging and not charging. Plugging the phone to a wall adaptor does not charge at all however plugging into a pc or a usb powered platform does charge but ridiculously slowly. Any ideas as to why and what to do to fix this?

Cheers

Flickering sounds like a bad contact.

Have you tried a different USB lead? The most obvious explanation for it charging with a weak source (USB socket) but not a stronger one (charger) is that the charger cable is bad, though the charger itself being broken is also possible (you don't say whether you have tested it with a different phone).

The phone's USB socket is another possibility, though naively you'd not expect that to behave differently with different sources. Check it for dirt that might get in the way of the contacts; if you see any use an air blower or a soft brush to clean it, a hard object could easily damage the contacts.

There are worse possibilities, e.g. the socket itself being damaged, but I'd check out the simpler ones first.

I have tried the same leads on a different phone and they all work. Ive blown into the port and checked the contacts as best i could. Ive tried new leads and a new power pack. Its gone from charging without problem to what its doing now. Would the fact it charges on usb to pc and not a power pack rule out the contacts??
Thanks for your reply

If the wall adapter works with another device but not this one, and this works (ish) with a PC but not the wall adapter, I don't know what that implies, unless anyone can think of a reason that the phone should shut off charging (instantly by the sound of it) when a significant current is supplied. And I don't know what that would mean.

A strange battery fault would be the best case (as easily replaceable), but strange is the word (I'd be a bit surprised if it shut down charging that quickly in that case). Worth looking at the battery though: if it shows any sign of swelling it needs replacing (regardless of whether that's the reason for this problem).

Once my asus zenfone 5 had stopped charging

but when I switched it off and kept it for charging overnight I saw that it was 100% when I rebooted my phone even when there is no sign of charging

So even if your phone doesn't show charging it may be getting charged
